Connecting Czech science centres. Opening science to people and partners.

The Czech Association of Science Centres (ČASC) is the national professional network of science centres, educational centres, observatories and planetariums. Our members turn science and technology into hands-on experience: in their exhibitions, children, students, families and teachers can experiment, discover and ask questions. Science here is not a set of abstract facts, but something visitors can touch and feel, try out and understand for themselves.

We are also an open partner for international associations, science centres, planetariums and project networks.

Our network in numbers

  • 11 member institutions
  • 8 cities across the Czech Republic
  • more than 2 million visitors a year
  • since 2013 advancing non-formal education together

Who we are

ČASC was founded on 10 April 2013 at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic as a professional platform for coordinating joint activities and strengthening non-formal education. Its founding members were the regional centres in Pilsen, Liberec, Brno, Ostrava and Hradec Králové; the network has since grown to include university-based and specialised institutions. Our members share an interactive approach, accessible communication of expert topics and the belief that curiosity is the strongest driver of learning. We represent the Czech network of institutions that popularise STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics. ČASC is a member of Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums; Techmania Science Center is also an individual member.

What we do as an association

  • Representation and advocacy: we represent our members’ interests with public authorities, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and international partners, and work to anchor non-formal education in the Czech education system.
  • Coordination of nationwide projects: we connect centres across the country and develop joint educational and public-engagement campaigns.
  • Knowledge sharing and professional development: we create opportunities for educators, methodologists and exhibition developers to exchange experience.
  • Promotion of science and technology: we give science communication in the Czech Republic a coherent, visible voice.

Science centres extend school learning with what an ordinary classroom cannot offer: laboratories, workshops, science shows, planetarium programmes and hands-on experimentation.

Nationwide joint projects

Our strength lies in taking a shared theme across several regions while allowing each centre to adapt it creatively.

  • Train Like an Astronaut (2026): a programme developed with ESERO Czech Republic, the European Space Agency’s education office for the Czech Republic; visitor activities inspired by astronaut training.
  • Developing Creativity in Science Centres: connecting educators and exhibition developers with artists and the creative sector. Implemented in 2023 with EU funding through the National Recovery Plan and the Czech Ministry of Culture.
  • Partnership with ČSOB (since 2018): together with the bank we support financial literacy, cyber security and sustainability — helping people make sense of the world of money.
  • Collaboration with ČT D (since 2017): a long-term partnership with Czech Television’s children’s channel, linking broadcast content with hands-on tasks and experiences at the exhibitions.

International cooperation and corporate partnerships

ČASC offers international partners a single point of contact for cooperation with the entire Czech network of science centres.

  • For international partners: exchange of experience and methods in non-formal STEM education, hosting and exchanging travelling exhibitions, joint development of educator teams and preparation of international projects. Practically all our members have experience with Erasmus+ and Interreg. Our nationwide network lets us match each partner with the institution whose expertise best fits a given project.
  • For corporate partners: presentation of technologies and experts within exhibitions, support for corporate social responsibility goals through technical education, and company events in distinctive settings. Our long-term partners include ČT :D, ČSOB and České dráhy (Czech Railways).
